Today I was talking to the Lord about how determined I was about something -- a good thing -- and I said to Him as a pledge, "Pin this to Your mirror..." Then I felt His smile, and I laughed and said, "You don't even have a mirror, do You?"
The rest of what I said went a little bit like this:
You don't need a mirror. All You have to do is look out and see the color of the early morning sky. All You have to do is look at a joyful kitten. Or a porcupine, or the millions of infinitesimal sea creatures -- all perfectly adapted to their environments.
Or the great deserts of Arabia, the American Southwest, and of other parts of the earth. Vast, unending waves of sand, like oceans -- inside of which are numerous microsystems of tiny animals, all of which You thought up.
All You have to do is look at the snow on the mountain peaks, or at the cedars reaching to the sky. All You have to do is look at the icy clear waves that lift and foam and crash against the rocks.
All You have to do is look at a newborn, taking its first breath outside the womb. All you have to do is watch human beings rescuing someone in danger, following the ancient programming You built into them.
All You have to do is look at my eyes, which reflect Yours back to You all the more after a sweet time of prayer.
You don't need a mirror! Your image is imprinted deep inside everything You created. Your mirror is space, time, air...
Your mirror is hope, love,
life itself.
To this I now add...
Yet even though Your image is reflected in Your creation, there is NOTHING that compares to You. Neverending bliss! It will take an eternity of eternities to even begin to know the sweet depths of You.
