My life is full of holes and dropped stitches. I didn't follow a neat, linear path. Some of this was intentional, because of who I am, and I would joyfully make similar non-linear choices again. But some of it was my own doing, unintentionally, because of miscalculations. I would so desperately love to mend certain dropped stitches that, if given the chance, I would go back and reknit those sections of my life. What bliss never to have gone off track! Especially concerning miscalculations that became prisons, and still entangle me.
The Lord Jesus excels at everything -- including knitting. I may be a timid knitter, losing my place or making a mess if I try a pattern or technique that's too complicated. But He is just as cool as a cucumber about these things. Dropped stitches from miscalculations? No problem. If we give our dropped stitches to Him, and are patient enough to see what He will do with them, one day we will find ourselves wrapped in a garment of impeccable beauty, where every hole and dropped stitch forms part of a master design.
Beautiful Lord, here is my messy life. I still seem to keep dropping stitches. My natural instinct when I see these errors is to panic, making a bigger mess. But instead I'm giving them to You. In Your hands, the holes and dropped stitches will become part of something so beautiful, no one would ever guess they began as errors.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
(Romans 8:28)
