I kept a log of what happened next, because my new philosophy is to pray with the trust of a small child, then watch and wait expectantly to see what the Lord does. I've seen a lot of amazing things happen lately that began with scary craziness and ended with me on my knees in awe and praise.
He is the Lord. To say He doesn't mind adventures is an understatement. If you surrender your life fully to Him, hang on to your hat.
- The windchill got down to about -30 again last night. This is the first winter I've ever heard the term "polar vortex," and I am hoping never to hear it again.
- The first thing I noticed this morning was that the upstairs cold water wasn't running, although (yay!) the hot water was fine. I took this to the Lord in prayer. Within a short time, the upstairs cold water began to run freely.
- In the kitchen, however, there was no water at all. I finally came to the conclusion that since water seemed to be flowing through all the other pipes, the problem was isolated to the section of pipe that runs right to the kitchen sink, very near an outside wall of the house.
- I cleverly decided to try using a hair dryer to try to thaw the pipes. Other things were plugged in too, so this blew a fuse. I replaced the fuse, but one of the wall outlets is for some reason now dead. I tried replacing each of the fuses one at a time to see if this fixed the problem, but nothing. However (thank You, Lord), the dead outlet is the most expendable one. Nothing was plugged in there that I can't plug in somewhere else for a while.
- I intermittently poured hot salty water down the kitchen drain to try to thaw the pipes. Then I boiled water in a tall, narrow cooking pot, set the pot near the section of pipe that seemed to be the culprit, and closed the cupboard door so the heat could do its work. I also let a trickle of water run from upstairs and kept the other kitchen cabinet doors open to draw in the warmth from the room. Then I waited.
- (15-20 minutes later) The hot water in the kitchen began flowing!
- (two minutes after that) Another gushing sound... The cold water in the kitchen came back on!! Singing His praises!
Jesus, have I told You in the last few minutes how much I love You?
Living (His) life on the edge, one wild little adventure at a time.
