On the cross, Jesus cried out, "It is finished!" and breathed His last.
I believe much of Psalm 18 can be read as "what happened next." Re-read it for yourself and see if you agree.
Even if you don't agree, one thing is certain: Jesus' "It is finished" -- My energy is spent, My task is completed -- is just part one; the second part of "It is finished"occurs very early in the morning on the day of the Resurrection. When God reaches down and removes His Son from the cords of literal death, the entire work of redemption is finally finished. Imagine the joy they must have shared in that moment!
As the heartbreaking words "It is finished" tumble down from the cross, God Himself, the Son, descends into darkness and silence. Yet His words reverberate through all heaven, ascending as an echo on the other side of death: "It is finished!" CRESCENDO! All of it is now finished. God's Name is restored, the curse that had been laid upon His creation is broken forever, Christ's bride has been ransomed.
Crescendo! He has done it. Crescendo! We are His forever. CRESCENDO! All heaven and earth praise You eternally, beloved Redeemer!
