long gone; many other hurts have come and gone and come in the meantime,
but our need for this lesson is the same.
I can be so oblivious, Lord, yet You open my eyes. You let it hurt for a minute, or for a season, so that I can learn Your way. This week in Your word I learned that in ancient Hebrew, afflicted and humble were the same word. It also meant poor, needy, and meek. How can we expect to learn of You, most deeply afflicted One, without allowing You to take us where pain is, to be shown how we hurt one another and ourselves, and how we hurt You? Where we can be humbled, and then cleansed. Teach us, beautiful One, the deep meaning of this adjective, anav. Teach us of Yourself. Teach us of one other's pain and let us care actively, as You do. Teach us, Lord of heaven, Lord of anav. Teach us Your own broken heart. |
